What test are done on eyes.

Ideally, the eye examination consists of an external examination of both eyes, followed by specific tests for visual acuity, pupil function, extraocular muscle motility, visual fields, intraocular pressure and ophthalmoscopy through a dilated pupil.

A minimal eye examination consists of tests for visual acuity, pupil function, and extraocular muscle motility, as well as direct ophthalmoscopy (ophthalmoscope) and a light source through an undilated pupil.

Everyone needs regular eye exams. This is particularly important if you are in the high risk factors or a family history of eye problems.

Children need their vision checked at 6 months, 3 years, and before national school. These exams should be done during preventative pediatrician visits and with a school eye screening.

Adults may see an eye doctor at least every two years and annually after age 60.

Schedule an eye test with Tangneys in our Killorglin or Tralee practices.
